Highams Park Day

One of the reasons we didn’t schedule a Highams Park Live session at The County during July this year is that I am involved in supporting ‘Highams Park Day’ where there will be a programme of live music performance up in the beautiful Highams Park by the lake. So we thought it would be really good to share a few details about that day here, and specifically about the live bands who will be performing including the Soner Ersen Quintet, The Acid Drops, and The New Giants.
Venue: The Highams Park IG8 9RB
(adjacent to Highams Park lake)
Date: Saturday 16th July
Time: 11.00 - 16.00
Admission: Free

Highams Park Day gathers together the creative talent and community spirit within Highams Park for a unique celebration of our local community. There will be an eclectic programme of live music performance throughout the day, plus a wide range of stalls with local crafts and creations, and a varied selection of food, drink and refreshment stalls.

A dedicated live performance stage will provide the centre piece for this year’s event, with a carefully curated programme that showcases established and emerging creative talent from within the area. The live music programme kicks off with three very special performances by local performing arts groups, before we move into the early afternoon session with three absolutely superb live bands.

14:15-15:00   THE ACID DROPS

The Acid Drops are a 4-piece instrumental band mixing a heady fusion of jazz, funk and psychedelic rock. Formed by long time Highams Park resident, John Baker, they recently released their first album “When” to enthusiastic reviews: “An amalgam of the Average White Band (on acid) and the James Taylor Quartet… undeniably contagious.” (Jazz Journal) “Absolutely brilliant! Good old raw British jazz funk!" (Jazz Juice Radio). The line-up consists of Tony Law on saxophones, Jeff Stevenson on guitar and guitar synth, Richard Scarr on bass, and John Baker on drums. www.theaciddrops.com
15:15-16:00   THE NEW GIANTS

The New Giants are an alternative/indie four-piece rock band from east London who have been honing their own brand of guitar-based rock for almost 30 years now. Sun-drenched harmonies and guitars create landscapes of sound that gather together the spirit of Crazy Horse, REM, Big Star and The Heartbreakers. “Classic riffs and harmonies” (Time Out) “Teenage Fanclub meet The Who for a curry on a Friday night in Leyton” (NME). This is a rare live performance from the band today, and you’ll find nothing about them online - Maybe they truly are an underground band!
